This
past weekend we attended the IHRA Canadian National at Toronto Motorsports
Park. We had made some changes to our ignition system in hopes of
curing our nitrous backfire problem. Our first qualifying run resulted
in the same ignition problem as before. With a backfire out the headers
and a bad misfire at half track it slowed us down to a very slow 7.99.
The only thing left to change was the ignition box. With no spare
in the trailer we had to rely on our fellow racers to help us out.
A special thanks goes out to Scott Mackie of the AC Delco race team
who loaned us his spare ignition box.
We had
plenty of time to make the change as our second qualifying session
was rained out. That left us waiting until Saturday evening to make
our last qualifying run and see if our changes worked. As soon as
the car left the starting line without a backfire we knew we had solved
our problem. The car ran a much quicker 7.54 and put us in the number
26 spot. We then moved into first round of eliminations Sunday morning.
With much better air and track conditions we knew the car would be
faster but how much faster was the question. We dialed in a 7.51 anticipating
a quicker pass but the car picked up much more going a 7.47. That
was way to fast and ended our weekend. Although disappointed with
our first round lose we are encouraged by the the cars performance
on the last run. It seems that we have the problem figured out after
many weeks of hard work. We are now preparing for the IHRA Northern
Nationals in Martin, MI in two weeks. We have done well there over
the past two years and are looking forward to returning to our successful
form at that event.
