The K&K / Fram
Top Sportsman team were in Grand Bend last weekend (May 21 - 23)
for the Spring Blowout. Hoping to use the event to prepare for
the upcoming IHRA Canadian National at the Motorplex the team
was on familiar ground and was looking forward to a great weekend.
Unfortunately the weather was not co-operating again. They did
mange to get a couple of runs in on Saturday afternoon. Saturday
evenings qualifier was rained out and then with heavy and persistant
rain overnight and early Sunday morning the event had to be cancelled.
The team had made
a fuel system change and put on a bigger set of tires for the
weekend in hopes of fixing a couple problems from the last event.
Everything went as planned on the first pass and they recorded
a 7.57, good enough to qualify second. With a baseline to work
from they decided to step it up a bit for the second session.
Step it up they did, with the same tune-up that ran low 7.50's
last year they ran a very clean 7.44. Considering the weather
conditions and head wind the team was very pleased with this number.
" We knew the heads were working better than last year but
I was hoping to see a 48 or 49 (7.48 or .49) come up on the board.
The .44 took me by surprise and the motor looked very happy after
the run.", says crew chief Kevin Zimmer.
For three days last
week the team and racecar were part of the Stratford Police Racing
Against Drugs program. Held every year at the Stratford arena,
local school kids are informed on the dangers of drugs and alcohol
as well as home safety. "Having the guys and the car here
is a real treat for the kids. They get to ask questions about
racing and the car, their eyes just light up when they see the
car." stated event organizer Constable Deb Neeb. This year
there were over 800 public school kids that were part of the program.
The team has two weeks
off to prepare for the IHRA Canadian Nationals at Grand Bend.
This is the first of 5 National Events the team will attend this
year. Grand Bend is their home track and nothing would be sweeter
than for the K&K/FRAM Team to win this event.
